Join us for an online presentation by Dot Millar, Department of Education School Library Support, on the topic of “Building Strong Frameworks for Confident Collection Decisions (No Hard hats Required)”.

Good school library collections don’t just happen by accident. Join us to discover why a library collection development framework is one of the most powerful tools a school library can have. We’ll unpack what needs to be in a good framework and why having it written down can save time, stress, and awkward conversations.
We’ll break down the key elements every framework should include, from selection principles and curriculum alignment to review, weeding, and reconsideration processes.
You’ll discover how to use your framework as a confident advocacy tool, helping you clearly explain your collection choices and the value of your library to school leaders, staff, parents, and the wider community. We’ll also look at how a solid framework takes the fear out of book challenges, giving you a calm, consistent, professional way to respond if concerns arise.
We’ll look at some available templates that you can tailor to your school’s context and needs, including the Department of Education’s Library Guiding Document template.
By the end of the session, you’ll have the practical tools and renewed confidence to create your own collection framework and thoughtfully build a library collection that truly reflects your school community.
This event will be recorded and available after the presentation.
